Life
altering that is the best way to describe what I have gone through.
Here I was 45 years of age and creeping over 315 lbs and pushing
a size 46 waist despite my best efforts, to say that my self
esteem was at an all time low would be an understatement. I
heard about the lap band and gastric bypass surgeries and had
been contemplating having the procedure done. Now that was an
understatement I waited for 2 years before I finally decided
to go through with it. I saw the advertisements on TV and in
the paper and was really having a hard time deciding who or
where to go. Well they say the best form of advertisement is
word of mouth. I work in a large office environment and knew
of a few people that had gone through with both procedures,
based on their results and enthusiastic recommendations I chose
to go with Dr. John Gonzalez and Innova Hospital. I couldn't
have made a better choice. It's hard for me to put in to words
how well I was taken care of. Professionalism Pride and attention
to detail went in to every aspect of my care and treatment.
Unfortunately I've had more than my share of Hospital stays
so I know what I am talking about when I say that my stay at
Innova was by far the best I have ever experienced. I really
felt like the staff at Innova looked at me as a person and the
enthusiasm they showed at watching my progress was motivational.
I almost felt guilty with all the attention that I was receiving.
I chose to go with the Gastric Bypass surgery because I knew
I was ready to change my lifestyle and as Dr. Gonzalez says
I was reprogramming my brain to my new lifestyle so that I could
make this work. Well ten and a half months later I've gone from
a size 46 waist to a size 32 and I've gone from my heaviest
of just over 315 lbs to 171 lbs. I can now wear my clothes with
my shirt tucked in and I don't have to think about my knees
when I tie my shoe laces or get out of a vehicle. I knew if
I didn't make this change I was headed toward Diabetes and an
early grave. I have Dr. Gonzalez and his staff and the staff
at Innova Hospital for giving me a new lease on life. Thank
you! |

My experience at Innova was wonderful. The staff was fantastic
and really took an active part in my healing. I got to know
the staff by name and feel priviledged to have met each and
everyone on them. The process can be a bit overwhelming but
they answered my questions with professionalism and compassion.
Thanks to everyone who helped me and especially Jennifer for
sharing her own story. You are all amazing. |

The entire stay at the hospital is handled with care and professionalism
by all members of that staff. There are to many people to list
but there are 2 that I want to tip my hat to. The 2 repiratory
specialists thanks Bruce and Frank for being the professional
but firm task masters in getting me to walk and breath using
my breathing tool (spirometer). To get me to recover that much
quicker so that I could come home as soon as I did. If you want
to go to the best Hospital in San antonio this is the place.

I recently had my Gastric Bypass done by Dr. Cavazos. Even though
I had a revision, he was still able to perform my surgery laparoscopically.
This was super terrific in my opinion. I stayed in the hospital
a couple of extra days, but both Dr. Cavazos and I agreed it
was best for me. But today I'm not writing about Dr. Cavazos,
I am writing about my most wonderful stay in your hospital.
The staff for my 5 day stay was very wonderful. The nurses really
cared about me and my comfort. They actually listened to me.
I always have a hard time with IV's and blood draws, because
I have these wonderful veins that you can easily see, but hard
to hit. But if I told the staff an IV was hurting or not feeling
right they fixed it right away. If you pressed the nurses button,
I didn't just have one nurse I had two and a RT at my side.
And I mean immediately, not in 5 or 20 minutes. They were very
good about making me do the walking and breathing exercises.
Which for my age, I felt was very important. But they never
made it feel like an order. The least little thing I requested
they tried to do.
I'm sure the staff rotates a lot I would like to mention a few
members on duty for my stay. I could not have made it without
Donna. She was great with my crummy veins. Bettie and Mary Ann
where outstanding in providing comfort and conversation. My
husband doesn't like hospitals much, so these ladies really
made me feel cared for while he was away. Van Etta is such a
sweet person, and does a wonderful job with patients, she seems
very patient and caring. Laura, Abel, Carolyn, Lisa and Jennifer
where great too, I just didn't get to be with them as much as
some of the others. My RT's where Bruce, Robert, Angie and Frank.
I enjoyed them all. I called Bruce "Bruce Almighty",
he was so funny you couldn't resist him.
I was so impressed, I have referred 4 friends to Innova, I'm
pretty sure 2 will be patients very soon. One her insurance
won't allow her stay at Innova, because it's out of network.
And one is going to Dr. Gonzalez's seminar this past Friday.
I have never been in a hospital that I felt was my own private
hospital. I felt truly special and wanted to let you know your
staff was great. Thanks again for the "Princess Suite"
( also known as Room 2) and the "Princess Treatment". |
