Originally from Monterrey N. L., Mexico, Dr. Zavala graduated from the Universidad de Nuevo Leon, Medical School, in 1970. He then attended the University of Illinois in Chicago to complete is graduate neurosurgery education. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Neurological Surgery, starting his practice in San Antonio in 1979, and establishing the Gerardo Zavala, M.D. Professional Association in 1980.
