Dr. Rene G. Jaso, board certified in Internal Medicine and General Surgery, was born and raised in Refugio, Texas and attended Texas A&I (currently Texas A&M at Kingsville). After graduating in 1970 with degrees in Chemistry and Biology and a commission from the United States army, Dr. Jaso earned his M.D. from the College of Human Medicine, Michigan State University in 1973. Dr. Jaso completed an internship at the Hurley Medical Center, a University of Michigan and Michigan State University teaching hospital, and then served as a flight surgeon in the United States Army.

After completing his military commitment, Dr. Jaso completed an internal medicine residency at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine, Mayo Clinic. Afterwards, he established a growing practice in Beeville, Texas, from 1980 through 1986. At this point, Dr. Jaso joined the United States Air Force and trained as a general surgeon. He was asked to join the surgical teaching staff and taught internationally, supporting and training special operations teams; he was instrumental in the reorganization of mobile surgical teams, designed to function in combat zones.

In 1996, Dr. Jaso left active duty, but remained in the reserve forces until March, 2008, when he retired as the Commander of the 433rd MDS at the 433 AirLift Wing. He joined the surgical staff at the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio and established his general surgery practice in 1996. Dr. (Col) Jaso was deployed numerous times during his reserve duty, including two tours to Iraq. He has been interviewed twice by Discovery Health and co-authored a course in “Critical Life Saving Skills in the Austere Environment”; the course is sponsored by the Department of Defense and is taught by the military world wide.
